Gastronomy is in the spotlight in Paris
Publish on Saturday, 10 September 2016 in Flavors and Gastronomy
The early autumn promises to be a tasty time in the capital, with three unmissable culinary events. The Fête de la Gastronomie, Semaine du Goût (Taste Week) and the Salon du Chocolat are eagerly awaited by all gastronomes and gourmets. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to participate in these gastronomy events when you stay at the Cler Hotel.
The tradition of French gastronomy
From September 23rd to 25th the Fête de la Gastronomie, initiated by the Ministry for the Economy, will once again attract food enthusiasts as it has for 6 years now. This year’s 6th edition offers a grand and glorious celebration of the culinary art in all its forms with, of course, a particular focus on French cuisine, its heritage and traditions. From tasty dishes the way Grandma makes them to the most refined specialties of the three-star establishments, this gastronomic festival honours fine produce and delicious dishes from all over France. The aims of the event include making cooking accessible to all, promoting gastronomy as a tool for regional and national economic development and showcasing quality gourmet products. For three days you will have the opportunity to watch live cooking demonstrations by leading chefs, attend cookery workshops, enjoy tasting sessions and purchase the finest produce, all in an atmosphere of inclusivity and conviviality.
The education of the palate
To celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Semaine du Goût (Week of Taste), all of France puts healthy eating in the spotlight. The event was begun nearly three decades ago to educate French schoolchildren about food and its health benefits. Since then it has grown and developed in scope and is now used to inform the public in general about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, while still maintaining a primary focus on the young. From October 10th to 16th in schools and other educational establishments throughout the country, professionals and specialists will organise various events around the theme of eating well and healthily. Safeguarding the French culinary heritage is another major concern of the Semaine du Goût, as is raising public awareness in regard to environmental responsibility and organic farming.
A gourmet event for chocaholics
But when it comes to food, we can’t be good all the time. A spot of indulgence now and then does no harm, and that is certainly the major appeal of the Salon du Chocolat, an irresistibly tempting trade fair that opens from October 25th to November 1st. For over 20 years this unmissable event for fans of chocolate and gourmet pastries has been bringing together iconic chocolate brands, the finest French and international artisans, industry professionals and chocoholics at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre. In a space of some 20,000 m2, almost 500 participants offer tastings of chocolate specialties from around the world, as well as demonstrations by great pastry chefs, chocolate workshops for adults and children and presentations by cocoa producing countries. Last, but not least, the famous Chocolate Fashion Show presents an amazing display of chocolate couture.
